LightWave Applied

By Jeremy Birn, published by: New Riders, cost: $50.00 By: Joe Tracy, Dave Jerrard, & Jen Hachigian, Published by: Advanstar Communications, cost $70.00

OK gang, this is one of those "must have" books that every 3D artist should have in his library! To say I learned a lot for this book would be an understatement . The book covers 3D lighting from A to Z and is written in a way that no matter which 3D program your using you'll understand what the author is talking about. Chapters include: Lighting Workflow, Three-Point Lighting (very helpful chapter), Shadows, Qualities of Light, Color, Exposure, Composition and Staging, Materials and Rendering Algorithms, and Compositing. The book features page after page of beautiful full color renders and illustrations so you can SEE exactly what the author is talking about.

If your a LightWave artist chances are you already purchased one of the earlier versions of Lightwave Applied. This book is very similiar to the early versions, but goes a little deeper into projects then the earlier books. Again, this is one of those "must have" books! This book we'll be great for both the novice and experienced LW artist. Each chapter is a "project" that the authors guide you through to completion. Chapters include tutorials on Architecture, Flight Animation, textures, Lighting, Scenery, Character Setup, LW 7, and my favorite; Automtive Effects. The 700+ pages are all B&W, but well done. The CD is worth the price of the book alone!
